PIERRE SIMON (1808 MIRECOURT – 1881 NEUILLY-SUR-MARNE)
The son of a mason, he learned bow-making in Mirecourt, then left for Paris in 1838, where he worked for two years with Dominique Peccatte. In 1840, he was hired by Vuillaume before opening his own workshop in 1844. He briefly partnered with Joseph Henry around 1851, then worked independently from 1852 for Vuillaume and Gand. He may have stayed in Mirecourt again during this period. The exceptional quality of his work ranks him among the greatest masters of the 19th century, his bows being highly admired for their aesthetics.
