NICOLAS "the decorated" MALINE (1822 MIRECOURT – 1877 MIRECOURT)
Son of luthier Guillaume Maline, he probably remained in Mirecourt his entire life, but undoubtedly worked for Vuillaume around 1840, adopting the square head style inspired by Peccatte. In 1849, he received the Legion of Honor and sometimes signed his bows with a small cross in reference to this distinction. From the late 1850s onwards, he ran a workshop with several workers, including his son Nicolas Auguste Eugène, who joined him around 1870. His work made him one of the great names in French bow making.
